What's your definition of "NON-PROFIT" ?

Updated: Nov 29, 2019

When I was googling to see if this actual Wix website was live and active, I came across several other karate and martial arts schools around Australia which were also listed as non-profit. A few clicks later, I noticed their list of prices, private lesson rates, wonderful packages, free uniforms if you signed up for a certain amount of time etc. One page dedicated to the training costs yet they list themselves as "NON-PROFIT" ? Am I missing something here or is my lexicon that poor that I don't fully grasp the term? I do understand that certain bills need to be paid to cover the cost of hiring halls, electricity, insurance and whatnot, but how much do all the student fees really go into "non-profit" use (if any) and how much is really being pocketed? Nothing wrong with charging students if both sides of the party agree, but to claim you are a not-for-profit karate school when maybe it's not...... hmmm questionable.

We at MINEI DOJO BRISBANE (嶺井道場ブリスベン支部道場) are a NON-PROFIT karate school, who simply want to seek students with a good heart, honest and have a positive attitude :) It may be challenging to understand this concept especially in the western world where everything seems to be revolved around money, however, we are simply following the same path of our sensei in Okinawa. We have a regular job to earn money, and Karate to promote health and to protect oneself and others - never for monetary gain.

What does the above really mean?
